Satish Verma advocate is the new ASG

The Central Government has appointed 43-year-old I H Syed,an Ahmedabad-based senior lawyer who is representing IPS officer Satish Verma,as the Assistant Solicitor General of India at the Gujarat High Court.

The Central Government has appointed 43-year-old I H Syed,an Ahmedabad-based senior lawyer who is representing IPS officer Satish Verma,as the Assistant Solicitor General of India at the Gujarat High Court. Syed will now represent the Central Government at HC. He has replaced advocate Pankaj Champaneri.

From Anand,Syed’s appointment as the ASG assumes significance at a time when some very sensitive cases are being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the state.

Syed has represented some senior Gujarat-cadre officers who are known as “Modi-baiters”,like Kuldeep Sharma and Sanjiv Bhatt and IAS officer Pradeep Sharma. Before his appointment as ASG,Syed was also appointed as Special Public Prosecutor for CBI. He is an SPP in the Sadiq Jamal encounter case.

Syed has also been representing Ishrat Jahan’s mother,Shamima Kausar,in the 2004 fake encounter case.
