We are back for the third and final session of Day 4. The English players are in a huddle, before they spread out on the field. The openers for New Zealand, Tom Latham and Devon Conway make their way out. As expected, James Anderson will begin with the ball.

Right then. New Zealand have a lead of 103 runs and will be looking to increase that when they come out to bat, in the third session. It does not seem like there will be a result to this game, with only one day remaining after play today, but the hosts will want to come out and make a statement with the ball. Join us for the third and final session of the day shortly.
This has been a very good bowling display by the visitors and especially by the veteran, Tim Southee, as he came, he saw and he conquered, as he grabbed 6 wickets to his name and ran through the middle order of the English Lions. Jamieson supported his partner-in-crime well as he finished with 3 to his name. Wagner had a solitary wicket as well. New Zealand bowled well for the most parts but would have wanted to wrap things up quickly, which they were not able to do. Nevertheless, they will be happy with their bowling show.
Apart from Rory Burns and Joe Root, none of the English batters really stepped up to the plate. England lost 2 quick wickets before Tea, on Day 2 and were on the back foot, but the duo of Root and Burns stitched a 93-run stand and kept England afloat. But when Root lost his wicket, England completely derailed and let the Kiwis dominate proceedings. Burns continued on and Ollie Robinson proved to be a successful partner, as he got to 42, but ended up losing his wicket. After that, Burns notched up his 100 and played some lusty strokes to finish on 132, before he fell and the hosts ended their innings on 275.
This has been a brilliant bowling display by the Kiwis, but they will be slightly disappointed that they could not close the innings out early! Yes, they were behind the 8-ball when the duo of Burns and Root were going about their business, but when Southee got rid of Root on the very first ball on Day 4, the batting of the hosts crumbled, apart from the resilience shown by Burns and the debutant, Ollie Robinson towards the end.

DRINKS! As the physio has a look at Burns, the umpires decide to take a drinks break. After a flurry of wickets fell, England found some light, when Burns and Robinson stitched a good stand and helped restore some parity. But, Southee came and disrupted their momentum and removed Robinson. Now, England will be piling their hopes on Burns to score his century and cut the deficit even further. The Kiwis will be banking on Southee and Jamieson to cause some damage with the new ball and wrap up England's innings.

Kyle Jamieson to Joe Root, OUT! CAUGHT! Sensational start to Day 4 and the English skipper has to head back on his very first delivery. A good length delivery on off, seaming away, Root stays back at the crease and looks to defend. The ball zips past the bat and finds the outside edge. The ball carries through to Ross Taylor at first slip and he gets low and takes the catch. Taylor feels that he has taken the catch but he is not a hundred percent sure. The umpires converge and decide to take this one upstairs, with their soft signal being out. Replays roll in and it is seen that Taylor's hands are underneath the ball as he takes the catch and the big screen shows out. A wicket off the first delivery and Joe Root has to depart. Just the start that the Kiwis would have been envisioning.

Hello and a warm welcome to the fourth day of the first Test between England and New Zealand. The Kiwis couldn't have asked for a better start on Day 2 as they got two early wickets and ensured that the hosts remain under pressure. However, Burns and Root's intact partnership ensured that they are not out of the game. While Day 3 was completely washed out, Day 4 would be an interesting one as the Kiwi pacers will be looking to bundle the English batters out, before they take the lead. With the weather playing games with our heart on Day 3, we will all be hoping that we have a rain-free day of cricket ahead of us. Will the Kiwis be able to take control of this Test? Right then! Unfortunately, we did not have any action on Day 3. Let us hope that we get some good action on Day 4 and Day 5. 98 overs are scheduled to be bowled on Day 4 and Day 5. Update 1635 local (1535 GMT) - Well, this was coming. After all the rain that we have had on Day 3, the umpires have decided to call it off. It is Stumps on Day 3! It promised to be a great day of cricket but unfortunately, the rain gods had different plans. It rained throughout the day and play wasn't possible. Coming back to the game, with rain washing out the entire Day 3, it would take some dramatic collapse by either of these teams for there to be a result in this game.
Update 1630 local (1530 GMT) - The umpires are out there having a look at the conditions but they still have their umbrellas up. The groundstaff are out there working too. It looks like it is still raining.
Update 1600 local (1500 GMT) - It has gotten brighter out in the middle but there is a bit of drizzle still. We are hearing that the latest we can start is by 1800 local (1700 GMT) and play can go on till 1930 local but it has to stop raining first and it also depends on how long the groundsmen will take to make the field ready for play. Update 1540 local (1440 GMT) - Tea has been taken and we have still not gotten any play yet on Day 3. It is raining but it has gotten a little brighter. Will we get any play on Day 3? The drainage here is brilliant but for that, the rain has to stop first. Stay tuned.

Update 1300 local (1200 GMT) - Lunch has been taken on Day 3! Unfortunately, we did not get to see any play in the first session of Day 3 as rain continues to fall in London. The conditions do not seem to improve as well and it seems like it is going to be a long wait. All we can hope for is that the rain stops quickly and play gets underway sooner than later. Hello and a warm welcome to Day 3 of the Test between England and New Zealand. Dare I say that the team which does better on this day will have a lot of advantage in the game. The game is nicely poised with Root and Burns still batting well for England, the plan for them is to bat as long as possible to get close to the New Zealand total. For New Zealand, it will be crucial to break this stand and then pick quick wickets to bundle out the hosts. Who will this day belong to? We will find out. Stay tuned for more updates.

Right then! That's all from Day 2 of the first Test match between England and New Zealand. England will be pretty happy with how the day went and they will look to continue the good work on Day 3 while New Zealand will need to bowl much better than they have on Day 2. New Zealand will be slightly disappointed! They had the advantage after picking up two wickets pretty quickly but they have not made use of it at all. They tried hard but they bowled too many freebies and they were punished. Southee was the pick of the bowlers while Jamieson too was decent. But, Wagner was slightly disappointing as his tactics of bowling short deliveries did not work and was played quite easily by Burns and Root.
England started slowly after Tea but after they got set, runs were coming pretty quickly. Both Burns and Root have played very well so far and are looking in ominous touch. Burns has reached a wonderful fifty and will look to score a big one on Day 3 while the skipper Root is also looking in sublime form. But their job is not done yet and they have a lot of work to do on Day 3. They will be pleased though to not lose more than 2 wickets.
An excellent day's play comes to an end and it will be England who will be the happier of the two sides at the end of it. England were in trouble at the start of the final session but Root and Burns have done well to weather the storm and go unscathed. New Zealand will be disappointed that they could not make use of the advantage after picking up two early wickets.

We are back for the final session of Day 2! The New Zealand players stride out to the middle. followed by Joe Root and Rory Burns. Tim Southee will start with the ball.

New Zealand, on the other hand, have been brilliant with the ball so far. Both Southee and Jamieson have been right on the money and they have bowled tight lines and lengths. Southee especially has done a very good job and picked up Crawley with a peach of a delivery but Jamieson too has done a good job. They will look to continue doing the same in the final session and prize out a few more wickets. Join us at 1530 local (1430 GMT) for the final session of Day 2.
England needed a good start but they did not get that as they lost Sibley for a duck and lost Crawley soon after. Burns has looked very good at the middle but he needs to continue and post a big one on the board. Root has joined him in the middle and has gotten off to a start. They still trail by 353 runs but their first aim would be to play out till Stumps without many wickets falling.
End of an exhilarating session but one would feel that New Zealand have taken this session. After getting bowled out for 378 with Conway reaching a double century, they have managed to pick up two wickets and have put themselves on the front foot. England will be disappointed that they have lost two wickets and they have a very long way to go.

We are back for England's first innings! The New Zealand players make their way out to the middle, followed by Dom Sibley and Rory Burns. Tim Southee will start with the ball.
So a Devon Conway special has put the tourists in a strong position in this game. The pitch is not an easy one to bat as some balls are seaming and skidding on. How will England respond? Their batting has been hit and a miss in the past, will they pack a punch now or will New Zealand continue their dominance in this Test with the ball too? It was not just one debutant who had a brilliant outing. There was one more whose debut with the ball might have been overshadowed a bit by the brilliance of Conway. But take nothing away from Ollie Robinson. The English debutant was the star with the ball finishing with 4-fer. The tall pacer made the ball do the talking and struck crucial blows at critical junctures. Mark Wood was the other pacer who did the damage with the ball with his skiddy nature and pace. He finished with a 3-fer. Anderson managed to get 2. Broad though had a tough outing as he was the least effective of the pace quadrant. Root though will be particularly pleased to see two young pacers stand up and deliver and help the hosts make a comeback but it ended with a bitter-sour note as Wagner dented those smiles towards the end.
After opting to bat, the vistors batted around debutant Conway. The South African-born New Zealander was batting on a different pitch to the rest of his teammates as he looked at ease from the get-go. He was well supported by Nicholls as the pair added 174 for the 4th wicket with Nicholls contributing 61. At 288/3, the tourists looked in a great position. But after the departure of Nicholls, the batting collapsed as no one could hang around for a long with Conway. The debutant kept losing partners but managed to get to a well-deserved and magnificent double ton. Thanks to some crisp hitting from Wagner at number 11 not just helped Conway get his double ton but also took the hosts to a total in excess of 375 when 350 looked tough at one point.
A good comeback from England on day 2 but some lusty blows from Wagner towards the end has spoilt that. But what a fantastic debut from Conway! He walks off to a standing ovation from the crowd and his teammates. He was cut above the rest of the Kiwi batters as finishes his debut with a fantastic 200! Take a bow! An innings that will not just be engraved in the honours board at the Home of Cricket but one that will be etched in the memories of all cricket fans for a long time.

So England have fought back well in this game and they will look to wrap up this innings inside the first hour of the second session. It was a session dominated by Mark Wood. His pace and skiddy nature has seen England get back in this game. He picked up 3 of the 4 wickets to fall in this session. Robinson was the other bowler who got the other wicket. He has been impressive too. Broad and Anderson haven't had any success so far today with the former still waiting for his first wicket of this summer. But overall a much improved and solid session for the hosts.
The tourists started the session well continuing where they left off as Conway and Nicholls continued their good work. The latter got to his fifty before departing for 61. After his departure, Conway has struggled to find partners as the tourists collapsed from 288/3 to 294/7. Jamieson though has done well so far to hang around with Conway who is on the verge of getting a double century on his Test debut. His double century will be the first goal of the second session for the visitors.
A fantastic session for England. The hosts looked fantastic and have managed to get 4/68 in this session. New Zealand will be disappointed with their effort this morning but they still have Conway out in the middle and he has looked unscathed thus far.

Right then. It has definitely been New Zealand's day but that is the beauty of Test cricket, isn't it? It can be all New Zealand on Day 1, but when Day 2 arrives, the slate is clean and you have to go through all the motions again. The hosts will be looking to get a good night's rest and then come out and provide some impetus and push the Kiwis on the back foot. The action on Day 2 begins at 1100 local and 1000 GMT. 'Work hard, Play hard' - that is the phrase that people have been seen using, but for England on Day 1, it has been work hard, but no playing hard. They have toiled and toiled and toiled but without gaining much success as they have only snared 3 wickets at the end of Day 1. Debutant Ollie Robinson snared two wickets for the hosts, whereas, veteran Anderson ended with one to his name. Wood and Broad bowled well, but not well enough to grab a wicket. They will want to put this behind them and come out stronger on Day 2.
It was all about Devon Conway for the Kiwis. He had able partners, with the likes of Latham first, for the opening wicket stand, and then after a few wickets fell, Henry Nicholls decided that he would join Conway out in the middle and together, the both of them have 132-run stand to help the Kiwis reach a good total at stumps. Conway, on his debut game, at the home of cricket at Lord's, has played with such maturity, that you would never figure out that this was his first game, as he went onto score his maiden century and is on course to get his 150 too. Nicholls is close to getting his fifty and these two will look to continue their good work on Day 2.
This has been a very good day of Test cricket. Mostly for New Zealand as after opting to bat, they have made full use of the same and have amassed 246 runs at the end of Day 1. England have had a hard day out there and will want to come out on Day 2 and really impose themselves.

The bowling by England has not been poor, but it has not reaped a lot of rewards too, as they have picked, just the solitary wicket. They probed with right lines and lengths early on, but the duo of Latham and Conway did not have an issue, negotiating the same. The debutant, Ollie Robinson got the better of Latham and broke the opening stand but since then, the batters out in the middle have not been troubled way too much. Without the presence of an out-and-out spinner in their ranks, the onus will be on the pacers to get the regular breakthroughs here. Will England make some inroads in the second session? Or will this duo be able to take New Zealand further in the game? Join us shortly for the second session of the day.
This has been a great session and a very productive start to the Test for the visitors. Opting to bat first, they would have wanted to set a strong platform and they have done that without causing a lot of fuss. Latham and debutant, Conway started off playing some nice-looking strokes and without taking a lot of risks too. They kept going about their business and also raised a 50-run stand before Latham chopped one back onto the sticks to end his responsibility, with the blade, out in the middle. After that, Conway and skipper, Williamson have looked quite solid and have ensured that they are around the 100-run mark and also do not have any more casualties before the Lunch break.
