Pledging to clean public life,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday asserted that no wrong-doer would go unpunished in the 2G spectrum allocation and the Commonwealth Games scams.
Wrapping up the discussion on the motion of thanks to the Presidential address,Singh assured that his government will co-operate with all agencies to probe the scams. I will be the last person to deny that unfortunate developments have taken place in the area of Telecom,in the area of Commonwealth Games, he said. These concerns are being addressed, he said, noting that action had been taken against people whenever credible evidence had been found.
He said,Chief ministers have resigned; ministers have resigned; the CBI has been on the trail of wrong-doers and I assure the House that there is nothing that we will not do in order to clean our public life. If there is a scam,it must be dealt with, he said, adding that the law of the land will punish the wrong doers.
However,he asked the MPs not to overlook the fact that a tremendous growth had taken place in telecom as a result of sound policies pursued by our government.
In Rajya Sabha,Singh said he was categorically assured by A Raja that the policy was being implemented appropriately with one departure which had been cleared by the Solicitor General. Subsequent developments suggest this was not the case. The matter was taken up for investigation by the CBI… The government at no stage interfered with this investigation, he said.
With regard to the CWG,the PM said the Games were very successful despite doubts. He said there had been complaints of wrong-doings even before the Games and from the ramparts of the Red Fort,I had promised that if a wrong thing has been done,we will investigate… If found guilty, nobody will be spared. That commitment stands, he said.
Regarding the Antrix deal with Devas for S-band spectrum,he said,Antrix needed government approvals for operationalising the contract, but these were not given. The contract did not get operational because operating licences and the regulatory approvals… were not provided.
He admitted that price-rise was problem, but said it was due to reasons beyond our control. He reiterated the promise to bring in the National Food Security Bill, which will help control prcies.
