Consumer electronic gadgets and home appliance major Videocon has been directed by a consumer forum to make good the damages suffered by its customer and compensate him for mental agony due to a faulty appliance and deficient customer services.
North-West Delhi resident Ram Kanwar had approached the district consumer forum after a Videocon washing machine purchased in February 2008 for Rs 10,600 went out of order in March 2009 and the service centre of the company failed to redress the grievance in time.
“The complainant had used the washing machine for one year before the complaint was lodged. Consequently, the complainant cannot enjoy the full amount of the machine. We are of the view that the complainant is entitled for 75 per cent value of the machine as it was only one year old at the time of making the complaint,” the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (Central) held.
The bench noted that a mechanic from the company visited him and took out the rotator from the machine which he said needed to be repaired at the service centre. After that, all attempts to contact the mechanic failed and the customer care executive at the service centre informed that the spare part meant to be replaced was not available with it.
