Life for murder

In jail since September 2008. Tripathi,his wife and others convicted in murder of poet Madhumita Shukla at her Lucknow home in 2003. Prosecution said Madhumita had got pregnant in an affair with Tripathi,then a BSP minister,and demanded that he marry her. Appeal filed against conviction.

In Faizabad jail since June 2008 after the 2007 disappearance of law student Shashi believed murdered; body never found. Anandsen,then a minister of state,had an affair with Shashi,says her father,a BSP worker. Shashi was allegedly pressing for marriage. Final arguments in case expected to start soon.

BSP MLA,Auraiya Engineers murder

In Barabanki jail for murder of PWD engineer Manoj Gupta,who was beaten to death at his home in December 2008,allegedly for refusing to donate towards Mayawati birthday celebrations. Of 13 accused,MLAs wife Vibha Tiwari is now out of jail. Final arguments expected to start soon.

Samajwadi Party MLA,Moradabad Life for murder

In Moradabad jail since May 2009. Haq and four others found guilty of killing a youth,Mohajim,accused in the 2000 murder of the MLAs father. Mohajim was being driven to hospital before the car was stopped by some men in another car who then shot him. Appeal against conviction filed.

History-sheeter,also known as Bhagwan Sharma. In Bulandshahr Jail since December 2010. Pandit and 17 others allegedly abducted 14 members of the Jahangirabad Block Development Committee to ensure victory of their candidate in chairmans election. Hostages rescued,MLA charged under Gangster Act. Of 18 arrested,9 have got bail.

BSP MLA,Naraini (Banda) Rape and cover-up

In jail since last month after a girl accused him of raping her and framing her for the theft of money and a cellphone. Four of his associates too arrested. Girl released from jail after 32 days,police admitted they had no evidence against her. Police have filed chargesheet,no plea for bail yet.

Indpendent MLA,Mau Murder conspiracy

In Agra Jail. CBI has named him main conspirator in murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai in Ghazipur in 2005. Earlier with BSP, later expelled. His brother says murder proceedings stayed on Allahabad HC order,bail plea pending.

In Lucknow district jail since October 2008 for alleged role in 2006 murder of Chandra Pal Singh,founder-manager of Lucknow Public School,shot dead at school gate. Singh once got bail but Supreme Court cancelled it.

In a Ghaziabad jail since March 2010 for cheating Raj Kishore Verma of Noida. According to 2008 FIR,Verma paid MLA Rs 5 crore for land off Noida Expressway to build an IT park,but did not get it. MLAs aides arrested; he later surrendered.

In jail since December 2010. Allegedly attacked Manoj Shukla,a candidate supported by BSP for post of BDC president in Pratapgarh. Police later slapped the Gangster Act on Raja Bhaiya (Raghunath Pratap Singh) and three associates. Bail pleas filed.
