Peeved with Governor R S Mooshahary over his recommendation for imposition of Central rule in Meghalaya,Meghalaya Progressive Alliance leaders led by NCP national general secretary P A Sangma on Friday met President Pratibha Patil and demanded his recall.
Sangma on Friday also held discussions on the issue with Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani and CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat here.
One of the MPA leader and former education minister Manas Chaudhuri said that they have petitioned the President for recalling Governor Mooshahary for conspiring with the Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA) to overthrow the MPA Government. He said: We apprised the President of the partisan role played by the Governor leading to the imposition of Central rule and dismissal of a democratically elected Government.
Chaudhuri said Patil gave them a patient hearing. He added that the MPA team is also trying to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The MPA will be filing a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday challenging the dismissal of its Government and imposition of Central rule.
An MPA delegation including former chief minister and UDP president Donkupar Roy,former deputy chief minister Hopingstone Lyngdoh,former education minister Manas Chaudhuri,BJP leader and former PHE minister A L Hek and former finance minister Conrad Sangma had rushed to Delhi on Thursday after the state was placed under Presidents Rule,placing the state Assembly in animated suspension.
Asked about his meetings with Advani and Karat,Sangma said he briefed the leaders about the situation in the state.
He said the non-Congress political parties will meet in Guwahati on Sunday and launch an agitation against the injustice meted out to the people of the North-East. Both Advani and Karat has assured us of full support to our movement, he added. When asked whether he will support Advani for the PMs post,Sangma said that Advani is a good PM candidate.
On whether his meeting with Advani had anything to do with both the parties coming closer,he said nothing can be said about the post-poll scenario. (With PTI)
