Over the course of his career, and even after retirement,Brian Lara continues to be compared to Sachin Tendulkar. On Tuesday, the West Indian addressed the comparisons yet again. Sachin is the greatest player I have seen. I consider it an honour to have rubbed shoulders with him, Lara said.
Asked to compare Sachin with Don Bradman,Lara said,Bradman was a great batsman. Clearly it isnt easy to have an average of 99.96 over a career. But while I have never seen Bradman play,I have seen Sachin bat. And to maintain the kind of record he has over 20 plus years, you have got to be special.
But while he was effusive in his praise for Sachin,he added with a twinkle in his eyes that though his own record of 400 runs in a Test innings was unlikely to be overhauled by the Indian,Sachins own 200 in ODIs would fall.
I think Sachins score of 200 will be overhauled. We play a lot of T20 cricket, and that impacts the ways ODIs are played. Someone like Sehwag or Gayle will probably get off to a start early in their innings, bat fifty overs and get that score. My score of 400 will also be chased, but Sachin is 38 so just on that basis I wont back him on getting it. Once again I think it will be someone like Gayle or Sehwag. And if Pollard bats for a day,who knows?
