The contempt case filed against the Punjab Agricultural University by its pensioners will come up for hearing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday. It was after the PAU failed to pay its pensioners for nearly three months, the pensioners under the flagship of PAU Pensioners’ Welfare Association moved the court. In 2008 too, this body had moved the high court when PAU had failed to disburse pensions.

Advocate Alka Chatthrath,“This case will be heard tomorrow. In the writ petition,PAU was a party in the case but as a procedure the contempt case has been filed against PAU Vice-Chancellor by name. This is a norm where contempt proceeding are done by name.”

The advocate adds,“The court had granted PAU a deadline of December 31,2009,to clear all dues and the court order had also mentioned that after this the university will get no extensions. The university had been seeking extensions claiming that grants are coming from the state government.”
