The verdict on filmmaker Jayendras latest movie,180,is out. The movie, which has been released in Tamil as Nootrenbathu and in Telugu as 180,has been lauded by critics as a film that is honest and strikes a chord with the audience. 180 marks ad-filmmaker Jayendras directorial debut and stars Siddharth,Nitya Menon and Priya Anand in key roles.
The story revolves around Mano (Siddharth),who goes to Chennai after performing the last rites of his father at Benares. In Chennai,he strives to help the needy. For instance: He helps newspaper boys deliver papers, sells eatables and tea at the beach, fights against auto-rickshaw drivers who fleece the common man etc. Then,Vidya (Nitya Menon),enters his life and falls in love with him. But Mano has to reject her proposal since he has a dark past.
The performances by the lead actors as well as by the supporting cast, the technical aspects and the music by Malayalee composer Sharath have been appreciated by crtics and masses alike. The film is doing well all over the South.
Many prominent people from the film fraternity have also liked the movie and praised it.
Award-winning director Mani Ratnam says,180 is a wholesome film. While the first half is entertaining, the second half is emotional. The visuals and music are brilliant and the performances are very good. Both heroines have done a good job and Siddharth is excellent. The climax is fantastic.
After watching the film,Tamil superstar Vijay said,Siddharth has always played the role of a lover boy perfectly. In this film,he has once again proved his expertise. But this time,he has also combined it with the maturity required to play such a sophisticated character. This is a movie,Im sure, which will be enjoyed by all age groups.
180 is a young film from a mature filmmaker. It is a welcome change to see educated,well-spoken people as protagonist unlike thieves and henchmen who have of late been glorified as heroes in Tamil cinema. The music is outstanding and the cinematography is world-class. Both heroines have dubbed their own lines, which is a miracle in South Indian cinema (especially since mostly voice-over artistes dub the lines of actresses). Its wonderful to see Siddharth playing a strong character. Jayendra has proved his mettle in his first film itself, said actress-director Suhasini Mani Ratnam.
Telugu filmmaker Anand Ranga, who made his directorial debut with Oy that also starred Siddharth, was all praises for his friend. My best buddy Siddharth has finally transformed from a boy to a man in 180. He looked and performed to the best of his abilities.
