Indore medical college owner held for forgery

Suresh Kumar Bardoi, owner of Index Medical College, was remanded to custody till April 20 by a CBi court

The CBI Friday arrested the owner of a medical college in Indore for allegedly forging signatures of 40 doctors to get the Medical Council of India go-ahead to run the college, nearly nine months after registering the case.

Suresh Kumar Bardoi, owner of Index Medical College, was remanded to custody till April 20 by a CBi court.

Dr D K Gupta and Dr J S Dhupia of Safdarjung Medical College in Delhi are Bardois co-accused. In 2008,the MCI had refused permission to the college for admitting students to its second batch, following which it moved the Supreme Court. The SC directed the MCI and the Health Ministry to conduct a fresh inspection. The inspection report of the MCI showed deficiencies in infrastructure, especially manpower… However, the ministry constituted a team of doctors (Gupta and Dhupia) which conducted an inspection on September 25, said a senior CBI official. On September 26,the ministry granted permission. But in another inspection by the MCI after 10 days,it was still found deficient in manpower.

The official said on the day of inspections, the college showed false records regarding employment of doctors as faculty, which became the basis for grant of permission by the ministry. However, the forgery was discovered soon after, following which the case was registered.
