‘Important for students to develop soft skills’

A talk on ‘Key to success and employability’ was held by the placement cell of DAV college on Saturday.

Col D S Cheema,vice-president,Fashion Technology,and Prof S K Chadha of University Business School,Panjab University were the speakers on the occasion.

The talk was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Cheema stressed that has the most powerful impact on the future of students gets ignored and neglected the most.

“Making themselves employable is one such issue. They devote hardly any time,energy an effort to help themselves.

To become employable,a student must suitably integrate his knowledge and skills and convert them into useful competencies,” he said.

He averred that while knowledge and analytical thinking will always remain at the core of functioning of any organisation,the soft and generic skills make the difference.

“A student must develop specific generic skills like reading,writing,speaking,listening and presentation,positive attitude,etiquettes and manners etc. They must also learn to manage themselves,understand their strengths and weakness and know how to control their negative emotions to be able to lead a successful and powerful life,” he advised.

Prof S K Chadha gave valuable tips to the students to succeed in their careers and create their niche in the business world to gain competitive advantage over others.
