With the CBI recovering a whopping Rs 13.45 crore from the house of a government junior engineer while investigating into a multi-crore financial scandal in Assams Dima Hasao district (erstwhile North Cachar Hills district) last week, opposition parties in the state have whipped up a campaign against the Congress-led government demanding a free and fair investigation.

The Asom Gana Parishad on Sunday announced it would stage a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan here on June 23,a dharna in every district on June 26,meet leaders of various national political parties on June 28 and carry out a torchlight procession on July 5.

The BJP state unit president Ranjit Dutta has held the state government responsible for the swindle and demanded CM Tarun Gogois resignation. The chief minister must take responsibility for this huge financial scandal, Dutta said. The opposition parties have alleged that the scam,if properly probed, would reveal involvement of several hundred crores of rupees.
