The commandant of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) took stock of the preparations made by the Faridkot administration on the possible risks of floods in the area. Intermittent rains that have lashed the area for the last few days and rising water levels of Sutlej have upped the risk of floods in the region.
Commandant R K Verma held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat,who apprised the visiting team about the measures taken for any kind of emergency. Low lying areas had been identified and a task force put in place to keep a close vigil on such vulnerable areas. Relief camps,control rooms and other arrangements to ensure a regular and adequate supply for the affected people and fodder for the cattle had also been arranged, said Bhagat.
The district civil surgeon and health authorities of the local medical college have also been directed to organise free medical camps in the catchment and the rural areas to check outbreak of skin and viral diseases. Bhagat said that the administration had also made arrangements to get adequate number of water tanks,which will supply clean potable water in the rain-hit areas. Meetings had been held with the local unit of the Army and paramilitary forces,besides,a list of divers have been prepared who could be pressed into action in emergency situations.
