Dey murder: CM tells cops to speed up probe

Chavan has issued orders for security and aid for Deys family members.

A day after veteran investigative journalist Jyotirmoy Dey was shot dead by motorcycle borne killers in Mumbai,Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Sunday asked the Mumbai police to urgently complete the investigations into the murder.

Dey,who wrote under the byline J Dey,was Editor (Special Investigations) with the Mumbai tabloid Mid-Day and was shot in broad daylight at Powai on Saturday.

On Sunday,Chavan and Home Minister R R Patil reviewed the situation after Deys murder and the progress of the investigations in an emergency meeting at the Chief Ministers official residence on Malabar Hill which was attended by Mumbai Commissioner of Police Arup Patnaik,Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy and Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rajnish Seth.

Chavan was informed about the investigations carried out by the Mumbai Police and was told that the police had set up a special cell for the investigation. The police said that the investigations were being conducted while considering all possible probabilities.
