A day after US Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer announced his decision to quit,he said on Friday he had the reputation of helping the US President Barack Obama and will continue to do so either in public or private capacity.
If the (US) President asks me again to work with him either in public or in private sector,he is a very very tough guy to say no to, Roemer said, responding to a question by The Indian Express on the sidelines of a meeting organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in India.
Earlier, while addressing the gathering in the Capital,he said in a lighter vein,Let me dispel the major rumour that I am going home to run for President. Roemer is expected to join Obamas team for the re-election campaign, kicked off early April.
Referring to links being drawn between New Delhis decision to reject the bids by American companies for the fighter aircraft deal and its impact on Indo-US relations,he said,The relationship is not based on one big idea or one deal…not on one successful deal or one unsuccessful deal.
We respect Indian procurement process but we are deeply disappointed… But I am forever an optimist and positive. No single issue can decide Indo-US relations. Our partnership is resilient and global in nature. It will make us inextricable in coming decades, Roemer said.
