Congress working president for Majha region,Om Prakash Soni, who lost to BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls,on Sunday dared Sidhu to contest from Amritsar and on a BJP ticket in the 2014 elections. Speaking to reporters at his Rani Ka Bagh residence, where he convened a workers meeting,Soni said: I do not know why he is shying from contesting polls. He should contest from Amritsar only and on a BJP ticket. He was responding to Sidhus wifes claims that the Amritsar MP has been sidelined by the BJP and would not contest the Lok Sabha polls. Soni, who lost to Sidhu by 6,858 votes in 2009,said: As an MP,it was Sidhus duty to fulfil the promises he made to the people. There is no development. Law and order situation is bad. The central university that should have been in Amritsar went to Bathinda. It was his duty to raise these issues in Parliament. Land acquisition for the university was a state subject. Then why was the university was set up in Bathinda? Where has the money that came for various development works gone? If he has done something for the constituency,he should contest from Amritsar and on a BJP ticket, Soni said while praising Sidhus wife,BJP Chief Parliamentary Secretary Navjot Kaur Sidhu for keeping in touch with the people who elected her. Asked about Congress leaders Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Raj Kumar Verka rolling out a red carpet to welcome Sidhu,Soni said: It is for Bhattal and Verka to answer. I think no Congress leader should issue such statements. It is for the party high command to take a call on such issues. Asked whether he was willing to contest Lok Sabha polls from Amritsar,Soni said: I will go by what the party decides.
