The CBI on Thursday questioned top officials of the Tata group and other telecom companies as part of its investigations into the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
This was the second time after the arrest of former telecom minister A Raja that Tata group officials were called in for questioning at the CBI headquarters.
According to the CBI,R Krishna Kumar and Sanjay B Ugale,chairman and managing director,respectively,of Tata Realty and Infrastructure,Dilip Modi,managing director of Spice Telecom,S Sarvana,director,V Srinivasan,group chief executive officer of the Siva Group of Companies that also own S Tel,Shamik Das,CEO of S Tel,and Sandip Basu,CEO of Loop Telecom,were grilled for nearly five hours.
The officials were questioned about the structure of their companies and stakes in other telecom companies.
We questioned them on the grant of licences during the 2G allocation and possible stakes in telecom that were given the contract. Officials of Loop Telecom,which had got licences for 21 circles,were questioned for the fifth time, said a CBI official.
The two Tata officials were asked about the Rs 1,700 crore unsecured loan given to Unitech. The Tata group had said that the loan in different installments was returned by Unitech,the official said.
