The body of the son of a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientist was found dumped in a drain Monday evening. Eleven-year-old Chalavaddi Pranav was reported missing by his parents Friday after he failed to return home after going out to play with his friends.
Police said the body was stuffed in a gunny bag and they found it in a drain near Guddimalkapur market.
It is now being investigated whether it was a case of kidnapping gone wrong or a family feud that resulted in the Class V boys death.
Pranavs father V Rama Mohan is project in-charge at the DRDO. While lodging a missing persons complaint,Mohan had claimed he had received a call on the day his son went missing but the conversation ended abruptly as his mobile phone switched off due to low battery. Police have traced the call to a local phone booth.
Police Commissioner A K Khan said that since it involved a scientists son, they had kept the investigation under wraps. The motive is still not clear. If it was a case of kidnapping for ransom, whoever was behind it would have tried to contact the boys father again. But after that single call,no one called again, Khan said Tuesday.
On the basis of the statement of a person who claims to have seen the boy talking to a young man Friday evening near his home, the police have prepared a sketch which is being released to the media. At least six relatives of the boys family have been questioned. Deputy Commissioner Stephen Ravindra said they are following a couple of leads based on information provided by the boys family.
Police could not gather any clues as to who is behind the murder of the boy.
