Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday inaugurated the Prime Minister’s election office in Varanasi and addressed a meeting of party workers and leaders in the PM’s constituency.

PM Modi, who won Varanasi in 2014 and 2019, will contest the 2024 elections from the Lok Sabha seat for the third time.

Addressing the BJP workers’ meeting, Shah said, “The BJP candidate from Kashi region in the 2024 elections has brought glory to Kashi, the oldest city in the world. He has done a lot for the development in the Kashi region. The office of Narendra Modi ji has been inaugurated today.”

Today under the double engine government, Purvanchal has become mafia-free, he said. “It is an honour for me to inaugurate the election office of ‘pradhan sevak’ Narendra Modi here. All workers of the BJP have to work together to ensure that we fulfil the aim to cross 400 (seats),” the Union home minister told party workers.

“The city of Kashi has given several great personalities to the country. Mahamana Malviya, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sant Ravidas, Kabirdas, Tulsidas… There are many great personalities who have been associated with Kashi over the years. If a list is made of people who have been conferred the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan and Bharat Ratna, then the list for Kashi will be very long. It is the city of education, art, and moksha,” Shah said, adding, “The elections in 2024. Our country is not just the biggest democracy, but Modi ji says that India is the birthplace of democracy. For all of us, elections are not just for acquiring power, but it is a celebration of democracy.”

Shah is scheduled to visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple on Thursday.  Sharing his association with Varanasi since 2010, he said, “In 2012, I became the in-charge of UP and came to Varanasi. In 2014, Narendra bhai decided to become an MP from here on invitation from Maa Ganga. Whenever history of the country will be written…this 10-year period from 2014 to 2024 will be written in golden letters. In these years, Modi ji has taken tough decisions and worked to take the country forward in every field.”

In his appeal, Amit Shah urged the people of Varanasi, to ensure a huge win for PM Modi in the elections. He pointed out that the Prime Minister, this time has set the target of “400 paar”.

“Modiji has given a target of 400 paar in the country and all workers of the BJP have to work together to ensure that we fulfil the aim to cross 400 (seats). To achieve this, we must also do four things. One, we must stop worrying and focus like Arjun, who could only see the fish’s eye. In the same way, we must focus on our booths and ensure an increase of 300 votes at each booth. Second, we must establish contacts with each beneficiary. Third, Modiji has ensured the construction of Ram Temple, Kashi Vishwanath corridor, the overall development of Kashi, removing Article 370, making the country prosperous, and lifting up 25 crore people from poverty. We have to take the message of development done by Narendra Modi to every household. And fourth, every voter in Kashi should get to know about the vision of Narendra Modi for development of the country by the year 2047,” he said.

Shah, further, pointed out that PM Modi has freed the country of corruption, casteism, pariwarvaad (nepotism), terrorism, Naxalism. “…the country has also been freed of signs of slavery from Mughal and British times by Narendra Modi,” he said.

Shah also pointed out that it is Narendra Modi who gave 33 per cent reservation to women in the Vidhan Sabha and the Lok Sabha. “Making Narendra Modi the PM for the third time will help India become the third largest economy in the world,” he said.

The Union minister said that despite being a lawmaker for 30 years, he has never had the same level of responsibilities as Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
