Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an election rally in Karnataka Sunday, claiming that the latter’s two-day roadshow will not be effective to win over the people of the state.

Addressing an election rally in Sidlaghatta town under Chikkaballapur district, Deve Gowda said: “The BJP in Karnataka has weakened. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is conducting roadshows. This is not a parliamentary election and one cannot fool people through road shows. Due to his road shows, those who earn their livelihood are going without any income. What is the purpose of all these things?”

Deve Gowda’s son and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy also said that people were being inconvenienced owing to the roadshows of PM Modi.

The traffic police blocked roads and diverted traffic in a few parts of the city owing to the prime minister’s road shows. On Saturday, Modi participated in a 26 km-road show and he held a 6.5 km-rally covering the central business district in Bengaluru Sunday.

“In the last assembly elections, I did not even imagine that JD(S) candidate Ravi would suffer a defeat here. It is also unfortunate that the four-acre land was not given to kabristan. I have donated land to the Idgah Maidan and given reservations to Muslims and the Valmiki community. The discrimination must be stopped,” Deve Gowda said.
