Gautam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha constituency: Earlier under Khurja Lok Sabha, in 2008, on the basis of recommendations from the Delimitation Commission of India, Gurtam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha was established. It covers the Bulandshahar and Gautam Buddha Nagar districts and is comprised of five Vidhan Sabha constituencies, including Noida, Jewar, Dadri, Sikandrabad, and Khurja.
Gautam Buddha Nagar has witnessed only three Lok Sabha elections. Bahujan Samaj Party won the first-ever elections in 2009, followed by BJP’s back-to-back victories in 2014 and 2019, earning the right to call this seat their stronghold.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the electoral battle will be between the BJP-led NDA, SP-led I.N.D.I.A. alliance and BSP. BJP once again fielded their two-time incumbent MP Mahesh Sharma as their candidate, while SP and BSP have fielded Mahendra Singh Nagar and Rajendra Singh Solanki as their candidate for the 18th Lok Sabha, respectively.
For the third time in a row, BJP has opted for Mahesh Sharma as their Lok Sabha candidate, as he has previously won both the 2014 and 2019 elections by over two lakh votes and was also the first-ever MLA from Gautam Buddha Nagar Vidhan Sabha. Mahesh Sharma also contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the same seat in an unsuccessful attempt. However, he made a solid comeback to become the two-time MP of Gautam Buddha Nagar.
Mahendra Singh Nagar, who served as the Congress district president from 1999 to 2016, has been selected as the Lok Sabha candidate for the Gautam Buddha Nagar Constituency by the Samajwadi Party. Nagar started his political career as a Congress member but left the party to join the Samajwadi Party in 2022.
Rajendra Singh Solanki, who will be representing BSP in the Lok Sabha election only months after joining the party, can be an X factor on this seat for BSP, as he, the former MLA from Bulandshahar, has previously been a member of both BJP and Congress and also brings decade worth of political experience with him.
