Hours after sitting MP and BJP’s Anand candidate, Mitesh Patel, filed his nomination in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday, an audio clip was widely circulated on WhatsApp in the constituency, purportedly containing derogatory remarks against a certain community and attributed to a close aide and relative of the MP.
Anand District BJP President Rajesh Patel on Wednesday appealed to people to “not believe” in fake videos, assuring that Mitesh Patel’s family had approached the police for help in the matter.
Rajesh, in a video statement condemning the audio clip, said that it was “fake” and put out by “enemies to obstruct path”, as they had been “rattled” by the support at Mitesh’s nomination rally on Tuesday.
Rajesh said, “It is Ram Navami today and we hope that the divine powers of Lord Rama overcome evil intentions… Right after the Anand Lok Sabha candidate filed his nomination, witnessing massive support on Tuesday, many rattled enemies of Mitesh Patel resorted to a cowardly act to place obstructions in his path… It came to our notice yesterday that an audio clip that could provoke the harmony and peace of the society has been made viral in the name of Miteshbhai’s family. The BJP strongly condemns the audio clip.”
Stating that it was not “BJP’s culture” to make communities fight, Rajesh added, “The audio clip is completely fake and it is not the culture of the BJP to speak in such (derogatory) language for any community. It has been our motto that the ultimate destination of our journey is not the throne but the journey itself is about moving forward by including everyone. Power is only a medium of service for us and therefore, we do not intend to make communities fight.”
Urging people to not believe the audio tape, Rajesh said that Mitesh’s family had approached the police and filed an application seeking a probe in the matter.
“Miteshbhai is a soft spoken person and so are the people around him… We appeal to the people to not fall for such acts and we warn the miscreants not to try this stunt again or they will be severely dealt with. In democracy, everyone has the right to put forth their views as per the Constitution. But in the name of Freedom of Expression, one should not try to spread venom and break the society… The police are investigating the application and the miscreant will soon be caught,” he added.
