Amit Shah’s assets up by Rs 4.5 crore in a year: Affidavit

The first case mentioned in the affidavit is registered with the Contai police of West Bengal, which is pending before a court of Chief Judicial Magistrate First Class in Contai Purba. The case is registered under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for offences like defamation, criminal intimidation, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, causing damage to the tune of Rs 50, mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house and promoting enmity between groups on the ground of religion, race etc. It is related to a meeting of Contai Municipality of West Bengal – held on January 29, 2019 – in which Shah is alleged to have used inflammatory language. Shah has challenged the FIR before the Calcutta High Court, which has granted stay on criminal procedure against him.

The second criminal case pending against Shah in Bengal is of defamation filed by Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, in the year 2018. The case is pending before a magisterial court of Kolkata, following a criminal complaint.

The third criminal case pending against Shah, as per the affidavit, is from Muzaffarpur of Bihar before a magisterial court. In a short description of the alleged offence, Shah has stated that it is related to flag hoisting, while wearing shoes/chappals. It is registered under Section 153 (B) of the IPC, which is related to “imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration”.

The fourth case pending against Shah is from Begusarai district of Bihar. It has been registered under the provisions of the IPC and the Representation of People Act for calling Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav “Chara Chor (fodder thief)” during the 2015 Assembly elections.

Shah has stated in the affidavit that he has not been convicted in any of the cases.

Shah’s affidavit also mentions that he has studied till second year of Bachelor of Science from Gujarat University. He has mentioned social work and farming as his occupation.
