India’s war against plastic
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence day speech gave a call to get rid the country of single-use plastics and added that the government might take a major step on October 2nd in that direction. Some subsequent statements, from him and his ministers, have made it clear that a crackdown on plastic would be to this government’s second term what Swachh Bharat campaign was to the first. In this episode, Amitabh Sinha, our resident editor in Pune, who writes on issues of science and environment joins us to discuss the problems plastic cause, to what extent it is possible to replace it, the challenges in recycling it and the steps the government is now planning to take against it.
