SYRIA: The US-led coalition unleashed a series of airstrikes on the Islamic State’s de facto capital Raqqa, killing 10 militants. However, a day after the barrage, IS stormed and took Ain Issa that was held by Kurdish-led forces around 50 km north of Raqqa.

YEMEN: Airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition continued to hammer Houthi rebel bases in Sanaa and other towns throughout the week. Over 100 people were killed in the past week with 40 dying last Monday. Three days later, 30 soldiers were killed in a coup attempt at a military base.

IRAQ: An Iraqi air force jet mistakenly bombed Baghdad last Monday killing 12 people. Also, a court sentenced 24 IS militants to death over the killing of hundreds of Shia soldiers in an IS offensive in Tikrit last year.

PAKISTAN: Gunmen on motorcycles opened fire last Monday at a passport office in Quetta, killing three people, including a police officer. Police said the shooting was sectarian in nature and blamed it on Sunni groups. Two of the victims were Shia Hazaras.

AFGHANISTAN: Afghan officials held talks with Taliban representatives in Islamabad to start full-fledged negotiations between the two.
