The blaze rapidly engulfed more than 1,500 square meters of the open-air market, which hosts vendors selling electronics and textiles.
According to Russian media, the entire Pravoberezhny Market is in St. Petersburg’s Nevsky district may be engulfed in flames. Witnesses also described hearing multiple blasts.
The highly flammable substance inside the building caused an intense fire to spread, according to a statement from the Russian Emergency Ministry.

According to RT one person has been killed while another has being injured in the fire.
Videos and images posted on social media showed the entire Nevsky market in flames and thick black smoke visible in the night sky.’

According to the ministry statement, 96 firefighters and 26 pieces of equipment are working to put out the flames at the market.
