US-bound Japanese flight makes emergency landing in Seattle after man tried opening door

A US-bound Japanese flight which was heading to Houston, Texas from Tokyo had to be diverted to Seattle and made an emergency landing after a passenger tried to open one of its doors during the flight.

According to reports, All Nippon Airways (ANA) Flight 114 was diverted to Tacoma International Airport in Seattle where it made an emergency landing, hours after taking off on Saturday “due to an unruly passenger”, the airline said.

According to Port of Seattle police, they had been informed about a man who “attempted to open exit doors during the flight”. Police added that the man, who has not been identified by the officials, was “having a medical crisis” and had to be restrained by other passengers and flight crew.

Police took the man to a hospital, however, it wasn’t clear if any charges were being framed against him.

All Nippon Airways, in a statement said, “The safety of our passengers and crew are our top priority and we applaud the efforts of local law enforcement for their support.” The authorities further added that after the plane landed in Seattle and waited on the tarmac, another passenger was removed from the airplane for “unruly behaviour”.

According to the flight data, the plane made it to its destination George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston on Saturday at around 12:40pm (local time), late by approximately four hours than its scheduled time of arrival.
