UN Security Council adopts US resolution on Trump’s Gaza peace plan, Hamas rejects it
Russia, which had drafted and distributed a different resolution than America abstained from voting along with China and the US-backed resolution was passed with a vote of 13-0.

The United Nations Security Council on Monday voted to approve a US sponsored plan for Gaza that endorses President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza and authorises an international stabilisation force to provide security in the devastated territory and envisions a possible future path to an independent Palestinian state, AP reported.
Russia, which had drafted and distributed a different resolution than America abstained from voting along with China and the US-backed resolution was passed with a vote of 13-0. Countries, including the US , were hoping that Moscow doesn’t use its veto power to block the resolution’s adoption in the UN’s most powerful body.
Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas agreed last month to the first phase of 20 points Gaza peace plan, backed by Trump, and a ceasefire came into effect in the two year war, though the UN resolution is being projected as a legitimised effort to a transitional governance and reassuring countries who have vowed to send troops to the territory and help rebuild it.
Trump’s 20 point peace plan has been included in the UN resolution as an annex and the UN endorses it. The resolution talks about establishing a Board of Peace which would act as a transitional authority that would be headed by Trump.
The resolution also approves stabilisation forces with a wide mandate, including overseeing the borders, providing security and demilitarising the territory. These authorisation for board and force would expire in December 2027.
The Palestinian Authority issued a statement on Friday which backed the UN Security Council’s resolution, however, the US sponsored resolution is facing controversy in Israel as it approves a future possibility of statehood for Palestinians.
Hamas has rejected the UN resolution on Gaza peace plan which endorses President Trump’s 20 point plan and said it fails to meet Palestinian’s demands and rights.
“Assigning the international force with tasks and roles inside the Gaza Strip, including disarming the resistance, strips it of its neutrality, and turns it into a party to the conflict in favor of the occupation,” Hamas said in a statement.
