Trump says will get ‘something special’ done in the Middle East: ‘real chance for greatness’

According to administration officials, Trump is due to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday to work towards a framework for a deal.

As per Reuters report, Trump said discussions on Gaza with Middle Eastern countries were “intense.” He added that both Israel and Hamas were aware of the talks and that they would continue for as long as needed.

Netanyahu told Fox News it was possible that Hamas leaders could be allowed to leave under the terms of an agreement. “The details of this have to be worked out. But … if Hamas leaders, for example, are escorted out of the country, yeah, if they finish the war, release all the hostages, we let them out,” he said.

The White House last week presented a 21-point peace plan at the United Nations, setting out steps to end the nearly two-year war. The proposal includes the release of all hostages, a halt to Israeli attacks on Qatar, and renewed talks between Israel and Palestinians.

Qatar’s government criticised Israel after an air strike on Hamas targets in Doha earlier this month. A Hamas official said on Saturday the group had not been shown the US plan.
