Suspect arrested after car crashes into San Jose post office, setting it ablaze

At around 3am, the emergency crews responded to the call of a fire in a post office located in a strip mall south of downtown.

A car crashed into a post office in San Jose, California early on Sunday and triggered the building to be up in flames as the suspect driver was arrested, authorities said. They added that no injuries were reported in the incident.

At around 3am, the emergency crews responded to the call of a fire in a post office located in a strip mall south of downtown, a joint statement issued by the San Jose police and fire departments stated.

The statement further added “Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle had been driven into the post office and caught fire, causing the entire building to catch on fire,” Associated Press reported.

The flames had engulfed the post office building situated in California and the firefighters took about an hour and a half to be able to control the blaze. At least 50 firefighters were at the spot to extinguish the fire.

Visuals posted by the fire department on the internet showed a vehicle completely charred inside a one-storey building which was heavily damaged due to fire caused by the car crash.

Local officials informed that federal postal inspectors would lead the investigation and gather evidence to answer the question of why the suspect crashed the vehicle in the post office, and whether it was an intentional act or otherwise.

An Associated Press report stated that the authorities have not released any identification details of the detained suspect who was driving the car the moment when it crashed into the post office in San Jose.

About 2 million people reside in San Jose, which is 80 kilometers south of downtown San Francisco.
