Assassination attempt, nuclear dominance, cutting down on government regulations — these were some of the topics up for discussion in a conversation between Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, marking the former’s comeback on the social media platform ‘X’.
The conversation that saw Trump taking a dominant front, marking a month since the assassination attempt on the former President at a rally in Pennsylvania, he spoke about the safety and protection limitations by the Secret Service at the venue. He claimed it was due to a ‘lack of coordination’.
Musk, who has publicly confirmed that he voted for the Democratic Party representatives in the previous elections and called himself a moderate Democrat, formally endorsed Trump shortly after the assassination attempt.
“I need an Elon Musk — I need somebody that has a lot of strength and courage and smarts. I want to close up the Department of Education, move education back to the states.” Trump said, during the interview, offering Musk a position in the government led by him.
Trump stuck to his speech from the four-day Republican National Convention highlighting President Biden’s shortcomings and calling his withdrawal from the presidential race ‘a coup’. Speaking of nuclear warming and the tug of powers, he spoke of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and claimed that it wouldn’t have happened if he had been in charge.
What stood out was his stance on electric vehicles. At the convention, Trump averted from the electric vehicles and slashed Biden’s regulations aimed at their adoption. However, he was powered into the conversation and said he had “no choice” but to accept the phenomenon. “I’m for electric cars, I have to be because Elon endorsed me very strongly”, the former president said.
Technical glitches mar the conversation
The conversation between two of the most influential personalities ought to drive traction, however, it did not start in the desired way. As many as 8,78,000 users had tuned in for the interview but the server showed unavailability of details and it was delayed by 40 minutes. Musk stated that the platform was experiencing a “massive” denial-of-service attack (DDOS) — a federal criminal act that involves flooding a site with data to overwhelm it and knock it offline.
Amid Vice President and Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ media campaign, Trump was held back due to the ban on his accounts across platforms after the US capitol riots. This comeback marks a new avenue for the Republic Party to garner support and Musk has opened that gate by lending X, an allegedly politically driven platform at Trump’s disposal.
