Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has reiterated her stance of releasing all the files related to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and said that she would stop using “toxic” rhetoric after US President Donald Trump called her a “traitor” and announced that he would not back her, CNN reported.

During an interview with CNN‘s State of the Union on Sunday, Greene said she still supports President Trump but added that she doesn’t support the Trump administration’s efforts to keep the Epstein files under the wraps. She said attacks by the US president are propagating toxic in-fighting in politics and also putting her safety at risk.

“He called me a traitor, and that is so extremely wrong, and those are the types of words used that can radicalize people against me and put my life in danger,” Greene told CNN. The reaction comes after Trump publicly attacked the Georgian Republican and announced retraction of his support towards Greene.

Greene also criticised the Republican Party for its handling of the government shutdown as she pivoted away from the party lines. The tension between Greene and Trump grew on Friday when the US president called her a “traitor”, “wacky”, and a “ranting Lunatic” on Truth Social and wrote, “I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of “Congresswoman” Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

“I would like to say, humbly, I’m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics; it’s very bad for our country. It’s been something I’ve thought about a lot, especially since Charlie Kirk was assassinated,” Greene said.

Trump, while interacting with reporters at Palm Beach international airport on Monday, was asked by reporters about Greene calling her life is in danger over the president’s rhetoric, and the Republican leader responded saying, “I don’t think her life is in danger. Frankly, I don’t think anybody cares about her.”
