Israel has stopped the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza “until further notice,” after accusing Hamas of breaking the ceasefire agreement, Associated Press (AP) reported quoting an Israeli security official on Sunday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity pending a formal announcement, said the suspension followed reports of fire directed at Israeli troops in southern Gaza. The move marks the first major disruption to the US-brokered truce that began just over a week ago.

Israeli media also reported that the halt would apply to all aid convoys entering through the Kerem Shalom and Rafah crossings.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directed the military to take “strong action” against any violations of the ceasefire but stopped short of saying the truce was over, according to AP.

The ceasefire deal includes provisions for the return of hostages’ remains and a scale-up of aid deliveries across Gaza, where humanitarian needs remain critical after two years of war.

Negotiations are continuing, with Egyptian and Qatari mediators working to prevent a full collapse of the ceasefire, AP said.
