‘To give you back your freedom’: Elon Musk officially launches America Party, targets House, Senate seats

A day after US President Donald Trump signed the ‘Big, Beautiful’ Bill into law, Elon Musk officially announced the launch of his ‘America Party’. The billionaire entrepreneur also conducted a poll on his social media platform X whether the US requires a new political party.

Musk, in his announcement, stated that he has set up the America Party to challenge the two-party system being led by Republicans and Democrats. “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” he said in a post on X. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” the post on X read.

Musk’s party launch comes not long after his public fallout with President Trump over the tax-cut and spending bill, which the Tesla CEO has fiercely opposed. He had threatened to form the party if the bill was passed by the Congress.

Taking a jibe at both Republicans and Democrats, Musk said: “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”

However, it remains unclear whether Musk’s America Party has been registered with the US election authorities, and the billionaire entrepreneur has also not provided any detail as to who would lead the party or what form it will take. It was during his public feud with Trump that Musk posted a poll on X asking users whether America requires a new political party.

Musk, in the X post, added “The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra: Extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield.”

Musk spent close to $280 million in Trump’s reelection bid in 2024 and was made to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) by the president, focusing on cost-cutting for the federal government. But the two have since fallen out over disagreements about the bill.

Trump, earlier this week, threatened to cut off subsidies that Musk’s companies receive including Tesla, SpaceX from the federal government.
