Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Qatar against continuing to host the leaders of the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the country. Netanyahu urged Qatar to either expel Hamas leaders or bring them to justice, “because if you don’t, we will.”
In a video posted on social media, a day before the 9/11 anniversary, Netanyahu compared the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack in Israel to the worst terror attack in US history.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:
“Tomorrow is September 11th. We remember September 11th. On that day, Islamist terrorists committed the worst savagery on American soil since the founding of the United States. pic.twitter.com/KDZcTXRsK0— Prime Minister of Israel (@IsraeliPM) September 10, 2025
“We also have a September 11th. We remember October 7th. On that day, Islamist terrorists committed the worst savagery against the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” he said.
“What did America do in the wake of September 11th?. It promised to hunt down the terrorists who committed this heinous crime, wherever they may be,” Netanyahu said.
“So we did exactly what America did when it went after the al-Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan and after they went and killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan,” he continued.
Netanyahu’s fiery comments come a day after Israel launched an unprecedented airstrike in Doha, targeting the top leadership of Hamas, while they were meeting to discuss a new ceasefire deal proposed by the US.
While Israel failed to kill any of the top leaders of Hamas in the attack, the airstrike invited international criticism, including from GCC countries, the EU and even a public rebuke by US President Donald Trump, who spoke to the Emir of Qatar and Netanyahu, and assured Doha that such incidents won’t be repeated.
Since October 2023, Israel has carried out airstrikes in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Iran and Qatar. On Wednesday, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said the “long arm of the IDF will reach every arena and sever the hands of all our enemies in the Middle East.”
“In recent days, we have struck in several arenas simultaneously,” he said.
Meanwhile, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said his country will respond to the Israeli airstrike in Doha after consultations with other Arab countries. Al-Thani told CNN that plans are ongoing for a summit to be held in Doha in the near future.
Al-Thani, who said he believes Israel hasn’t been genuinely negotiating, also accused Netanyahu of dragging the Middle East to “chaos” and of “wasting” Qatar’s time.
Following the airstrike on Tuesday, Qatar had suspended its mediation for a Gaza ceasefire and the release of the Israeli hostages.
