1 dead, 1 wounded, suspect at large in University of New Mexico dorm shooting

Students were told to stay indoors as police responded. The university added that the injured person’s condition was not life-threatening.

One person was shot dead and another wounded early Friday at a student housing complex at the University of New Mexico (UNM), according to authorities. The suspect has not yet been found.

The university said in a statement that gunfire was reported at the Casas del Rio dormitory complex. “Out of an abundance of caution, UNM has closed its Albuquerque central campus,” the statement said.

Students were told to stay indoors as police responded. The university added that the injured person’s condition was not life-threatening.

“Multiple law enforcement agencies are on scene and actively investigating,” the statement said, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).

The university, located in central Albuquerque, has around 23,000 students during the academic year.
