Former US President Donald Trump announced JD Vance, the Ohio Senator, as his running mate for the upcoming US Presidential elections during the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin.
The announcement comes days after Republican Presidential nominee Trump survived an assassination attempt while he was rallying in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
JD Vance, 39, was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio which was once considered a flourishing town where people lived on content and the lives of the middle-class could survive on single income.
But as soon as the jobs disappeared, the trickle down effect was visible in the town and so with Vance’s family.
Vance spent a considerable amount of time with his grandmother during childhood and he rose to prominence with his memoir Hillbilly Elegy, a 2016 book which chronicled his plight of childhood.
The book illustrated his mother’s addiction, family’s poverty and the struggle of the rural white working class. The book has now been made into a Netflix movie.
After completing Middletown High School in 2003, Vance enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in Iraq as Corporal in the Public Affairs section. Vance has graduated from The Ohio State University and Yale Law School.
JD Vance is married to Usha Vance, a corporate litigator at a law firm in San Francisco and they have three children.
