International Men’s Day 2024: International Men’s Day is a significant occasion dedicated to recognising and celebrating the contributions of men to society, families, and communities.
This day serves as a platform to address important issues related to men’s health, well-being, and gender equality, thereby encouraging positive male role models and fostering discussions around the challenges men face in today’s world.
International Men’s Day is annually celebrated on November 19, and this year, it will be observed on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
The theme for this year, “Positive Male Role Models,” highlights the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities.
By promoting role models who embody integrity, responsibility, and compassion, the day seeks to inspire future generations to follow in their footsteps.
This day also raises awareness about men’s well-being and promotes gender equality.
The campaign for an International Men’s Day has been continuing since the 1960s, emphasising the importance of gender equality and recognising men’s contributions to society.
International Men’s Day (IMD) was founded in 1999 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, a history professor at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago.
In recent decades, there have been efforts to establish IMD in various countries; however, these attempts have often struggled due to a lack of publicity.
During the early 1990s, organizations in the United States, Europe, and Australia held small events in February, but these initiatives were unsuccessful.
As a result, in 2009, the date was changed to November 19, and ever since then, International Men’s Day has been celebrated annually on November 19 to honour and appreciate the men in our lives for their contributions to the greater good.
