International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism 2025 Date and Theme: Terrorism harms or kills thousands of innocent people every year. As a result, the United Nations General Assembly founded the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to Terrorist Victims on August 21, 2017.
This international day is observed annually to remember, pay tribute to and support terrorist victims and survivors, in addition to promoting and protecting their human rights and basic freedoms.
The observance builds on existing UN and Human Rights Council efforts to support victims by standing in solidarity with them.

This year marks the eighth commemoration of the day on Thursday, 21 August 2025, under the theme of “United by Hope: Collective Action for Victims of Terrorism.”
Inspired by the recently established Victims of Terrorism Associations Network (VoTAN), the theme signifies solidarity and collaboration across communities, areas, and experiences.
It also encourages individuals to listen, support, and act in solidarity with victims to create a more inclusive, resilient, and peaceful future.
On 21 August, we honor the #VictimsofTerrorism worldwide.🕯️
Their courage & resilience remind us that even in the darkest moments, hope unites us.
