Heavy rainfall at several places across India today: IMD

An 'orange alert' has been issued for heavy rainfall in Bihar on Thursday, July 11, with a 'red alert' for very heavy rainfall predicted for Friday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at many places across the country today (July 11).

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue from July 11 to 15 over the Konkan belt, Goa and parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat. Mumbai and Thane are under a ‘yellow alert’ for heavy rainfall from Thursday until Saturday. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay updated on the weather forecasts and take necessary precautions.

There will be increased rainfall activity in north and northeast India, including East Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh in the coming days. In Delhi, the temperatures are expected to be between 28°C and 36°C today.

An ‘orange alert’ has been issued for heavy rainfall in Bihar, while a ‘red alert’ for very heavy rainfall has been predicted for Friday.

Additionally, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya until July 14.

In the south as well, Kerala will see very heavy to heavy rainfall at some places from July 12 to 14.

Meanwhile, the IMD observed that Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh had the highest amount of rainfall Wednesday between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, followed by Varanasi, Kanpur and Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka’s Karwar, and Diu and Botad in Gujarat.
