Weather forecast Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Monday predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Dense fog is very likely in isolated pockets over Assam and Meghalaya during morning hours, the IMD said in its latest forecast.

A fresh western disturbance is approaching the extreme northern regions this week, including Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab region, which is likely to bring down the temperatures. Leh town of Ladakh was the coldest recorded place Sunday at a low of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius, while the mercury in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir marked an improvement after plummeting several degrees below season’s average over the past couple of days, a MeT department official told PTI.

Meanwhile, pollution levels in Delhi-NCR dropped further on Monday with moderate winds sweeping the region. The overall air quality index (AQI) in the national capital read 218 at 8 am, down from 234 at 4 pm on Sunday. The weatherman has predicted generally cloudy sky in Delhi with light rain or drizzle for Monday and the maximum and minimum temperature is expected to hover around 27 and 14 degrees Celsius.

Air quality in poor zone in Delhi

Delhi's air quality was recorded in the 'poor' category on Monday morning and is likely to improve owing to light rains predicted later in the day. According to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), Delhi's air quality index was 218 at 9.10 am. The overall air quality index in the city was 254 at 9.45 am on Sunday. Pollution levels in Delhi-NCR dropped further on Sunday with moderate winds sweeping the region.

Chennai to receive more rains in next few days

The wet spell in Chennai is likely to continue for the next few days as more rainfall is expected, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said. The RMC said that Chennai, districts in coastal Tamil Nadu and parts of neighbouring Puducherry will receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms from Monday due to an easterly trough in Tamil Nadu. Districts in southern Tamil Nadu are expected to receive more rainfall than the northern region of the State. Read more here

Delhi's air quality was recorded in the 'poor' category on Monday morning. As per System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), Delhi's air quality index was 218 at 9.10 am. Pollution levels in Delhi-NCR further dropped on Sunday with moderate winds sweeping the region. An AQI between 201 and 300 is considered 'poor', 301-400 'very poor' and 401-500 'severe'. (PTI)

Winter chills likely to remain missing till month-end: IMD

Winter seems to be eluding major parts of Maharashtra so far this year, with the temperatures likely to remain above normal till the end of this month. In Pune, warm atmospheric conditions will keep the day temperatures close to the 30 degrees Celsius mark, whereas the minimum temperatures over the city will range between 16 and 17 degrees Celsius till November 30, officials at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Sunday.
