The comedian Stephen Colbert has donned the garb of The Hunger Games emcee Caesar Flickerman on his show earlier as well.
A video showing Late Show host Stephen Colbert taking over the mic on stage during prep for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland has gone viral.
In the video, Colbert – dressed like and imitating The Hunger Games emcee Caesar Flickerman – announces at the lectern that the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump “has formed an alliance with Indiana Governor Mike Pence.”
The footage begins with Colbert announcing at the lectern that the presumptive GOP presidential candidate “has formed an alliance with Indiana Governor Mike Pence” followed by a dramatic pause where he just lowers his head for a couple of seconds and then “wakes up” to apologise for “suddenly blacking out”.
The comedian continues with the Hunger Games-themed announcement saying, “It is my honour to hereby launch and begin the 2016 Republican national hungry for power games”, banging the gavel for effect. This is immediately followed by a security personnel trying to remove him, to which he says, “I know I’m not supposed to be up here, but let’s be honest, neither is Donald Trump”, before being led off the stage by the gentleman dressed in black.
Colbert, who has worn this persona of Caesar Flickerman – with blue wig, et al. – got off the stage to much laughter and applause.
