A woman took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a video of a bowl of chicken fried rice that she ordered on Zomato from a restaurant in Bengaluru and claimed the dish contained a dead cockroach.

She said she ordered the dish from a restaurant called ‘Tapri By The Corner’ which is situated in Koramangala 5th Block. The video showed the bowl filled to the brim and a small insect could be seen inside. “Absolutely disgusted with my order! This is completely unacceptable and unhygienic. Need an immediate resolution,” she wrote.

Zomato responded to the woman’s post and asked her to send them her contact number and the order ID via a private message.

“That’s really unexpected, Harshitha. We can understand how you must be feeling :( Could you please help us with your registered contact number/ Order ID via a private message so that we can look into this immediately?” Zomato wrote.

In August, a woman who ordered food via Zomato in Gujarat was annoyed by a “container charge” levied on the order and took to X to complain. Zomato also responded to the woman’s claim.

Khushboo Thakkar, from Ahmedabad, had ordered the traditional Gujarati dish Dudhi Thepla, priced at Rs 60 each. Her order totalled Rs 180. However, an additional container charge of Rs 60 was also levied on the order bringing the total to Rs 240 before taxes. Thakkar was miffed about the container charge being equal to that of the item she had ordered.

Zomato Care replied to the user and wrote, “Hi Khushboo, while taxes are universal and vary from 5 – 18% depending on the type of food. Packaging charges are levied by our restaurant partners, they are the ones who implement and earn from this practice.”
