When wrestler Sakshi Malik won a bronze for India, the whole country was jumping in joy not only because it was India’s first medal but because it was a moment of proud for every Indian who had been hooked to television this entire Olympic season. But a senior journalist in Pakistan Omar R Quraishi said something that offended many Indians including Amitabh Bachchan.
“Finally one of the 119 competitors that India sent to Rio has won a medal – a bronze – now see how they portray it as if they won 20 golds,” he tweeted and from then on, Twitter became a battleground for many Indians and Pakistanis with a barrage of tweets from both sides. But Quraishi did not budge, he replied to many of them in the same condescending tone and continued to belittle India’s performance at Rio Olympics. “For a population of over 1.25 billion India managed just one bronze medal – Norway with 5 million managed 2 — tch tch tch,” he tweeted again.
Responding to Amitabh Bachchan’s tweet, Quraishi said that it only takes a tweet on Rio Olympics to get a response from him. “Note to fellow Pakistani Twitterati: Critique India’s performance at the Olympics & the Great Bachchan will respond,” he tweeted.
Here’s what all he said.
Obviously many Indians were furious and Quaraishi recieved flak from not only Bachchan but even senior Indian journalist Shekhar Gupta.

Well, just FYI, India has definitely got two medals in its kitty after PV Sindhu’s win on August 18 against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara and one of them might be gold!
