Remember how essential training wheels were for you to learn cycling on two wheels? A three-year-old stray dog, Tommy, can now be found happily roaming and frolicking around with what look like training wheels, thanks to the efforts of a veterinarian Dr Madan Kompal, who has designed wheel-carts for disabled dogs.

Talking about Tommy — who lost sensation in both of his hind legs after and accident — Dr Kompal says, “He started defecating, urinating in the same spot where he was sleeping. So, that leads to bed sores.”
Dr Kompal then came up with a novel idea, “To give a solution for this, a wheel cart is the one which came to my mind. We fixed the same to him.” For one-two days, Tommy struggled to carry around the wheel cart. “He (Tommy) started defecating and urinating easily with that. He started to roam around,” Dr Kompal says with a smile.
These prosthetic devices — manufactured in Mysore — can be fitted to various sizes of dogs length-wise and girth-wise.
