The viral clip captures several high-rise buildings covered in dense smog, making the view hazy. The video also captures the murky view of the Yamuna River. According to reports, annual crop stubble burning in Haryana and Punjab, automobile pollution, and emissions from construction sites and factories have led to the significant deterioration of the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi-NCR.
With over 17,000 views, the video quickly gained traction as social media users slammed the government. A user wrote, “World’s worst capital of a country.” Another user commented, “Corruption, apathy.”
“Diwali has not even come yet, crackers have not even been burst yet, why is there so much pollution in Delhi NCR? You have banned crackers long ago, why is this happening,” wrote a third user tagging Arvind Kejriwal, former chief minister of Delhi.
According to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the national capital’s reported average AQI of 310, on Monday, is the worst in the country. As per the CPCB, an AQI in the “very poor” category––colour-coded as red––can lead to respiratory illness in people on prolonged exposure
