A mobile shop owner in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor was attacked and robbed of Rs 50,000 by a man who used chilli powder to blind him before fleeing with the cash. The incident, which took place on April 30, was caught on CCTV, and the video has now gone viral.

The robbery occurred at Suhail’s mobile store in Bijnor. According to The Free Press Journal, the robber, who was wearing a mask, entered the store posing as a regular customer and initially asked for a Rs 19 mobile recharge. He returned shortly after, still wearing a mask, and requested another recharge for Rs 29.

While Suhail was processing the transactions, the man suddenly pulled out chilli powder concealed in his jacket and threw it at Suhail’s face. Taking advantage of the chaos, the robber reached into the drawer, grabbed Rs 50,000 in cash, and attempted to flee.

Suhail tried to stop him, and even managed to grab their robber’s hand, but the attacker broke free and ran out of the shop. The show owner chased the thief, shouting for help.

Nearby shopkeepers and passersby rushed to Suhail’s aid, helped him wash his eyes and called the police. “I couldn’t see anything. My eyes were burning. I tried to stop him, but he ran away with the money,” Suhail said, as reported by The Free Press Journal.

The video was shared by journalist Sachin Gupta on X. “In Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, a miscreant robbed 50 thousand rupees from mobile shop owner Suhail by putting red chilli powder in his eyes. The miscreant pretended to be a customer and got a recharge done for Rs 19 and then Rs 29. Then he took out chilli powder from his jacket and threw it in the shopkeeper’s eyes,” Gupta wrote in Hindi.
