In the past few weeks, social media has been full of stories about young people sharing how they became millionaires. One of the most talked-about stories is a 25-year-old Reddit user who wrote about how he built a net worth of Rs 1 crore.
As a child, he fantasised about being a crorepati by 18, but as he grew older, his expectations shifted. By the age of 21, he had pushed his target to 40. Everything changed, however, when he began freelancing and moved into artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) at 22, according to him.
At 23, he landed a major US contract, and by 25 his net worth had crossed Rs 1 crore. As per the post, his portfolio looks like this today: Rs 49 lakh in mutual funds, Rs 46 lakh in US stocks, Rs 5 lakh in cryptocurrency and about Rs 25,000 in gold. He doesn’t own a car or a house, lives in a rented apartment, goes on one domestic and one international holiday a year, and clocks over 60 hours a week as an AI engineer.
“When it happened, I just stepped out for a smoke. Nothing in life changed, except me looking toward the next milestone. Am I mentally sound?” he wrote on Reddit.

The responses were mostly supportive but came with advice. One Reddit user wrote, “ik this is a very good thing but personally for me, if u don’t enjoy in stuff like car or a bike atleast at the age u are supposed to, are you even living life? or just tryna hit them numbers? invest some money in liabilities for enjoyment too bro, u will regret it in the future!”
Another person chimed in, “Congratulations! But please stop considering cars and bikes as assets. They are liabilities which depreciate in value.”
A third added perspective, “Wow I’ll be honest, it is an exceptional feat! I am an IIM alum and only by 33 could I be, education loan free, 1 Cr net worth individual. Not sure what it’s like for others. You kid, have definitely made some great investments! Think about how you can grow from here, hence (think starting up). Onwards and upwards.”
