Dhurandhar has outperformed itself in its second weekend, earning Rs 143.5 crore, taking its global box office collection to Rs 530 crores. According to Sacnilk, the film’s India total now stands at Rs 351.75 crore, making it Ranveer Singh’s highest-grossing film domestically. It has surpassed the India lifetime collection of Padmaavat and is now just Rs 230 crore short of overtaking Padmaavat’s worldwide total.
This success marks a significant turnaround for Ranveer Singh after nearly six years. In this period, the only clear hit in his filmography was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which earned Rs 357.5 crore worldwide. Post Gully Boy (2019), films like 83, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, and Cirkus failed to perform at the box office. The actor also faced fair amount of controversies.
Several of his ambitious projects—including Baiju Bawra with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Rakshas with Prasanth Varma, and Don 3 with Farhan Akhtar—were announced with much fanfare but were later quietly shelved or postponed without any official updates.
Ranveer Singh reacts to Dhuradhar success
Following Dhurandhar’s success, the actor shared an emotional note on his Instagram Stories. He wrote: “Kismat ki ek bohot khoobsurat aadat hai, ki woh waqt aane par badalti hai… lekin filhaal… nazar aur sabr. (Destiny has a beautiful habit of changing with time… but for now, it’s about patience and faith)”.
The post quickly went viral, with fans flooding social media with appreciation. One user wrote, “There are some actors I genuinely feel happy for when they do well because they’re always underappreciated. Ranveer is one of them. He’s one of the best actors right now and yet somehow gets sidelined—a true chameleon. Cast him more, Bollywood. And Farhan needs to make Don with him.” Another fan commented, “Ranveer Singh via his Instagram—may you rise and shine more and more.”
Why didn’t his earlier films work?
After Gully Boy, Ranveer starred in 83 (2021), portraying cricket legend Kapil Dev. Despite strong reviews and critical acclaim, the film underperformed due to the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, Jayeshbhai Jordaar—which faced multiple delays—released to mixed reviews and failed commercially. Cirkus met a similar fate.
While Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani offered some relief, his collaboration with filmmaker Prasanth Varma ended when Rakshas was officially shelved. Ranveer also made a brief appearance in Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again, which too struggled at the box office. Most of these films failed to reach their breakeven point.
Speaking about failure at a Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani event in Mumbai, Ranveer said, “I don’t dwell too much on failure or success. I’m grateful that I get to go on a film set and work. What matters to me is whether my character is loved. I don’t understand the numbers game, and I try to remain detached from it. I want to focus on the craft, performance, and character.”
He added, “If a film succeeds, it’s everyone’s success—and the same goes for failure.”
How is Dhurandhar performing?
Despite mixed reviews and selective backlash, Dhurandhar opened at Rs 28 crore and collected Rs 207.25 crore net in India within its first seven days. In its second weekend, the film surged ahead, earning Rs 32.5 crore on Friday, Rs 53 crore on Saturday, and Rs 58 crore on Sunday—cementing its status as Ranveer Singh’s biggest domestic hit to date.
