A woman who booked a Rapido bike in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida was later bombarded with unwanted messages from the rider who attended to her. In a now-viral Reddit post, the woman shared screenshots showing the rider’s messages, begging her not to report him to the company.

The woman booked a Rapido bike for the DLF Mall from Sector 18 market area, as she thought it might be a safe option based on her previous experience with the cab service platform. However, things turned alarming after the rider dropped her messages post the ride.

“Pretty simple post, as the title suggests, I booked a Rapido bike yesterday to go to DLF Mall from Sector-18 market. It was in the afternoon and I could not find many autos nearby. The waiting time for a cab was over 8 mins and so I thought I’d book a ride with Rapido and get to the mall quickly. After all, I had already travelled previously with Rapido a couple of times and it seemed like a safe and quick option to get me out of this scorching heat,” the woman wrote.

“Reached DLF Mall, paid the driver and that should have been it, but somehow this guy ended up getting my number and he texted me on WhatsApp. I never ever gave him my number I have no clue how he ended up getting it. Creepy as f***,” she added.

Several users reacted to the post, sparking a discussion on passengers’ safety. “What the hell ….launch a complaint against him in rapido and inform them the complete scenario,” a user wrote. “Imma keep it real. Rapido call centre folks still have your number and these drivers cab easily get the data out. All it takes is usually 200-500 rupees,” another user commented.

“Privacy is a joke for Indian startups.. from upi id to customer information, the apps can help extract your phone number,” a third user reacted.

Last month, a video of a Gurugram man apprehending a Rapido rider who sent inappropriate messages to his wife grabbed eyeballs. In his video, the man revealed details of how the incident unfolded. Soon after the video came to light, Rapido extended an apology and further barred the accused from the platform.
